Weekly Touchpoints: The Secret to Staying Sane in December
Let’s be real, December is messy.
One week feels normal, and the next? Parades, holiday parties, last-minute work deadlines, family visiting out of town… and weather that can’t decide if it’s hot, cold, or raining. If you live in Hammond, Covington, Mandeville, or anywhere else in Louisiana, you know exactly what I mean.
That’s why I swear by weekly touchpoints.
No, it’s not a full cleaning day.
And no, it’s not an hour-long planning session.
It’s just a quick check-in twice a week that keeps your home and your schedule from completely spiraling.
Why They Work
-
December schedules change constantly
Events pop up last minute, family visits shift, traffic gets wild, and weather can mess up everything. You need a flexible way to stay on top of it all. -
Waiting until the weekend is too late
If you tell yourself, “I’ll catch up Saturday,” we all know what happens. Saturday comes, and you’re buried in laundry, groceries, cleaning, and whatever else got left behind. -
Small maintenance prevents big overwhelm
A few minutes now keeps the chaos from exploding later.
What to Do in Your Touchpoints
Here’s my simple Louisiana-friendly version of a weekly touchpoint:
-
Pantry & fridge check – make sure you have the staples you need for the week. Beef stew ingredients, jambalaya, snacks… whatever disappears fastest in your house.
-
Quick calendar glance – double-check appointments, school events, holiday gatherings, and traffic-heavy times. Make sure to also check what gifts are needed and what holiday treats need to be made for this week’s events.
-
Bathroom reset – toss trash, refill toilet paper, wipe down sinks. 3 minutes = huge payoff.
-
Car tidy – trash, random bags, wrappers… it all goes here.
That’s it, pick two quick check-ins a week. Ten, fifteen minutes tops. You’ll feel in control without adding stress.
Why This Matters
These small touchpoints keep December from taking over your life. They help you:
-
Stay on top of your to-dos
-
Keep your home feeling calm
-
React instead of panic when plans change
-
Actually enjoy the holiday season
Trust me, once you start this, you’ll wonder how you ever survived December without it.
