Week 2 - Make Room for the Feast: Fridge, Freezer, and Pantry Prep

Is your fridge still holding onto mystery leftovers or half-empty condiments from summer? Before you start filling your kitchen with Thanksgiving groceries, it’s time to clear the clutter and make space for the holiday feast ahead.

At Organizing With Leslie, we believe a well-organized kitchen is the heart of a stress-free holiday season. When your food storage spaces are clean and categorized, cooking (and even cleaning up) becomes so much easier.

Step 1: Toss the Old and Expired

Start by checking those expiration dates and saying goodbye to anything past its prime. That includes forgotten sauces, old condiments, and leftovers that have seen better days. Clearing these items not only creates more room, it ensures everything in your kitchen is fresh and ready to use.

Step 2: Group Similar Items Together

Once the old is out, group similar items to make everything easy to find.

  • Baking supplies: flour, sugar, chocolate chips, and spices

  • Snacks: chips, nuts, granola bars

  • Canned goods: soups, vegetables, beans, and sauces

Organizing by category helps you see what you have (and prevents buying duplicates).

Step 3: Label for Easy Access

Use bins or containers to keep things tidy, and add labels for each category. This small step makes it simple for everyone in your household to find what they need and to put things back where they belong!

Step 4: Take a Quick Inventory

Before heading to the store for your holiday ingredients, do a quick inventory. You might already have the sugar, spices, or broth you need for your favorite recipes. Knowing what’s on hand saves time, money, and stress.

The Goal

By the end of this week, your fridge, freezer, and pantry should feel clean, organized, and ready to handle all the delicious holiday cooking ahead. A few hours of prep now will save you countless headaches later leaving more time to enjoy the season with your loved ones.
