fall declutter, organize, and reset in Louisiana

As the temperatures start to drop here in Louisiana, it’s the perfect time to declutter and reset your closet for fall and winter. Organizing your wardrobe now not only saves time in the mornings but also makes getting dressed a stress-free experience.

Here’s how to tackle your seasonal closet refresh:

1. Start with a Full Declutter

Take everything out of your closet and sort through each item. Ask yourself:

  • Do I wear this regularly?

  • Does it fit well?

  • Is it in good condition?

Items that no longer fit or you haven’t worn this past season should be donated or sold. This first step is essential for a proper closet reset.

2. Organize by Season and Category

Once you’ve decluttered, separate your fall and winter clothing from summer items. Organize by type—sweaters, jackets, pants, dresses—so you can see everything at a glance.

I like to separate my sleeveless, short-sleeved, and long-sleeved shirts. But this is a personal preference, you certainly don't have to do that.

3. Maximize Space

Use storage solutions that make sense for your space:

  • Clear bins for scarves, hats, and gloves

  • Shelf dividers for folded sweaters

  • Sturdy hangers for large, heavy coats

  • Shoe containers/boxes

4. Keep Everyday Items Accessible

If you frequently wear a particular jacket or cardigan sweater during the fall and winter, you may want to hang those items on a hook in your drop zone for an easy grab when heading out the door.

Other items I like to keep in the drop zone for the unpredictable Louisiana weather are rain boots and rain jackets.

5. Maintain Your Reset

Once your closet is organized, a quick seasonal decluttering session can keep it tidy all year long. Consider a mini-reset at the start of each season to avoid clutter buildup.

A well-organized closet doesn’t just look neat, it creates a sense of calm and order in your daily life. Take the time to declutter and reset your closet this fall, and enjoy smoother mornings and a more peaceful home.
